Authorities reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.

An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
